Welcome to À l’Ombre d’Azay – Demeure d’Hôtes
The House
Located in front of the Town Hall in the heart of Azay-Le-Rideau, close to the castle and to all shops and restaurants, it was originally a winery.
The current rooms and apartments replace the building that served as a cellar.
Opposite the dining room, the cellars dating from the 16th century reveal vestiges such as the “Screw” of the old press as well as the old vats anchored in the rock.
The vines of yesteryear have given way to a garden planted with espaliers of more than 3000m2 affording a panoramic view at the end of the bell tower of the Church (11th century, listed as a historic monument) as well as the gates of the Castle enclosure.
FREE PARKING Car / Bikes in our courtyard secured by digicode.

Azay-le-Rideau castle
Located 5 minutes walk : the castle of Azay-le-Rideau is built on an island in the middle of the Indre under the patronage of François Ier. A subtle alliance of French traditions and innovative decorations from Italy, it is an icon of the new art of building in the Loire Valley in the 16th century. Its landscaped park, designed in the second half of the 19th century, affords this castle a very natural setting.
In 1905, the state became the owner of the Château d’Azay-le-Rideau. Its successive owners have contributed to making it the most harmonious architectural jewel in the Loire Valley.
The Touraine Area
Here perhaps more than elsewhere, the Loire, its tributaries and the tuffeau hillsides form an ideal setting to practise the art of gardening or wine growing.
In the heart of the troglodytic cellars of Touraine, many vintages are resting, of which Vouvray, Chinon, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Montlouis-sur-Loire await their time to be tasted, as well as so many other appellations of Loire wines.
In the Valley of the Kings, prestigious monuments everywhere tell the story of France’s royal past: the royal castle of Amboise, the Clos Lucé, the castles of Azay-le-Rideau, Langeais, Ussé, Villandry , the royal fortress of Chinon, the royal city of Loches, without forgetting the castle of Chenonceau!
